FUTOURWORK is a Horizon Europe-funded research initiative dedicated to strengthening social dialogue mechanisms for workers in the tourism and hospitality sector, with a particular focus on those in non-standard employment and digital platform work.
Led by the University of Westminster, this collaborative project brings together academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and worker organisations across Europe to address the challenges faced by tourism and hospitality workers, many of whom experience precarity, lack of social protection, and limited representation.
Our Key Objectives
Enhancing social dialogue to support all tourism and hospitality workers, particularly those in precarious employment, including platform workers.
Mapping best practices and shared challenges across Europe to inform policy and industry standards.
- Developing innovative tools, including:
- A well-being index to benchmark working conditions in the sector
- A benchmarking tool to assess industry practices
- An observatory to facilitate ongoing dialogue between workers, unions, employers, and policymakers
- Creating resources to raise awareness and empower workers, including:
- A documentary highlighting worker experiences
- Legal self-use manuals to support workers in understanding and asserting their rights
By fostering inclusive and effective social dialogue, FUTOURWORK aims to contribute to fairer, more sustainable employment conditions in tourism and hospitality, ensuring that all workers - regardless of employment status - can participate in shaping their working lives.
