About the network
The AHRC-funded ‘Spiritualism and Technology in Contemporary and Historical Contexts’ network supported a series of workshops led by Sas Mays, culminating in September 2009 with a major conference held at Westminster, ‘Visual Cultures of Spiritualism and Technology’, with Marina Warner and artist Susan Hiller.
The ‘Archiving Cultures’ programme that developed from this resulted in three further collaborative conferences:
- ‘Old Media/New Work’ (May 2010)
- ‘The Hole in Time: German-Jewish Political Philosophy and the Archive’ (June 2010), with Sussex Centre for German Jewish Studies
- ‘Contemporary Vernacular Photographies’ (Sept 2011), with the Photographer’s Gallery, London
