In the article, Professor Steve Greenfield wrote about the European Super League and how people have responded to its announcement, with many people criticising it. He also discussed the history of splits and divisions in sport, as well as possible outcomes of the European Super League.

Talking about the response, Professor Greenfield said: “The world of European football experienced one of the biggest shake-ups in its history when a prospective European Super League (ESL) was announced. He added: “The initial outrage will give way to more measured thought and criticism, but the burning questions are whether this model represents a realistic challenge to the current style of competition and what the consequences would be for both the European and domestic English game. The history of sport can offer some clues.”
