University of Westminster Graphic Information Design BA Honours alumna Cheryl Laidlaw has won the Best Businesswoman in STEM Award for her website design business, London Web Girl.
Cheryl Laidlaw is a leading female web designer and founder of London Web Girl, a website design business which specialises in custom-built websites for small businesses with a focus on the medical sector.
Cheryl’s journey in web design began with her Graphic Information Design BA Honours degree from the University of Westminster. After graduating in 2007, Cheryl went onto set up London Web Girl which provides innovative web design solutions to help clinics and doctors increase their online presence.
The Best Businesswomen Awards are designed to recognise the achievement of female owned businesses and charities across a wide range of categories and are open to any female business owners, who are selected based on their business expertise, innovation and high levels of customer care.
The judges commented: “Cheryl is a tech leader who has created an impressive business building websites in a day. She has, in addition, created an innovative suite of products servicing specialist industry sectors and is making superb use of AI. Her podcast stats are laudable, educating in the field of technology and business. A proactive businesswoman who gives back to her industry and supports other women. Cheryl's passion for her industry was evidenced throughout her entry. Her clients clearly love working with her and her longevity in a competitive sector is to be admired.”
On the award, Cheryl said: “I’m incredibly honoured to receive this award in STEM. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication not just from myself, but from everyone who has supported me along the way. My journey, which began at the University of Westminster, has fuelled my passion for pushing the boundaries of web design and AI. It’s exciting to be recognised for innovation in such a competitive field, and I’m grateful for the opportunities that have brought me here.”
Cheryl’s work and the Best Businesswomen Awards contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 5: Gender Equality and 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
