Professor Andrew Groves, Professor of Fashion Design, was quoted in an article by The Guardian about the Westminster Menswear Archive’s exhibition, Undercover, which will look at the evolution of face masks during COVID-19.
The article discussed the exhibition which will start online on 11 May. Professor Groves said: “We thought it was an excellent moment to reflect on how quickly our relationship with face coverings has evolved over the last 12 months.”
Professor Groves added: “The public attitude to masks over the last 12 months has hardened. For such an unassuming and uncomplicated object, they have quickly become a symbolic and contentious artefact. They have also become a means of policing other people’s dress and behaviour.”
