Dr Pinar Uysal Onganer, Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology, was interviewed by the Times Radio about the computer programs company DeepMind’s recent revolution in biology and drug discovery.

Dr Pinar Uysal Onganer said: “It is definitely a breakthrough, so I am, as a scientist, quite excited about this news.”
Explaining what DeepMind have found, she said: “They managed to predict the unknown proteins around 92% accuracy, so this is a huge breakthrough because people have been working on these predictions since the 1960s to be able to, especially conservational biologists, predict the proper shape of these proteins.”
