Academic Council

The Academic Council is the University’s supreme academic deliberative and decision-making body and is responsible for strategic oversight of all academic provisions.

It reports to the Court of Governors and considers a broad range of issues that relate directly to the University’s academic direction and focus.

To assist in meeting its obligations and responsibilities, the Academic Council establishes committees as it considers necessary to enable it to carry out its responsibilities.

Committees: Course Validation Standing Panel, Portfolio Planning Committee, Research and Knowledge Exchange Steering Committee, Student Experience Committee, and Teaching Committee.

Meeting dates 2024–25: 16 October 2024, 4 December 2024, 19 February 2025, 2 April 2025 and 25 June 2025.

Terms of reference and membership

Academic Council is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor. Its membership includes 11 ex-officio members, 9 nominated or elected academic staff, and 2 currently registered students, nominated by the Students’ Union.
