Westminster business students visit global IT company Kaseya-Datto

Final year Business Management (Digital Business) BA Honours students from the University of Westminster recently visited global IT company Kaseya-Datto in Reading on 30 January. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for them to experience the inner workings of a global IT company, engage with senior professionals and gain career insights firsthand.

Kaseya trip 1

Kaseya is a global provider of unified IT management and security software services for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and small and medium-sized enterprises. Kaseya, headquartered in Miami, expands its footprint and increases its innovative capabilities also through acquisition, which Datto was one of the latest of. Datto was a UK company providing security and cloud-based security solutions for MSPs. With this acquisition, Kaseya also acquired the location of Datto headquarters in the Green Business Park in Reading. Westminster students had the opportunity to visit Datto’s facilities with the supervision of Lecturer Saverio Romeo and Senior Lecturer Dr Marzieh Talebpour.

Greg Jones, Senior Vice President of Kaseya, joined his team to welcome the students in their office before exploring its amenities and open spaces where Kaseya’s employees relax or host informal meetings.

Jones began the visit by providing an overview of Kaseya, its offers, market footprint and strategic vision. He also provided the students with a direct and effective view on what Kaseya looked for when recruiting. His messages on punctuality, networking and engaging, and revising the minimum requirements were strong insights for the students. He defined them as courageous because by coming to Kaseya’s offices, they showed the desire to do more, learn more and go beyond the University environment. He addressed that that commitment was the base for a successful career.

The discussion on careers and skills continued with the presentations from Kaseya’s successful employees such as Jack Cooke, former rugby player and now key member of Jones’ team, Adam Salley, who leads one of Kaseya’s largest sales team, and Ellie Chadwick, who organised Kaseya’s largest event with more than 5,000 attendees. They all reinforced Jones’ messages on IT business environments, careers and how determination and consistency were key factors to make a working life in a digital business company successful.

Kaseya trip 2

Jones and his team also stressed the importance of communication as a fundamental skill in digital business companies.

The visit concluded with a tour of the office. Students were able to talk to Kaseya’s employees, see their technology and enter the core of a digital business company’s operations. The visit gave students the opportunity to see the reality of a digital business enterprise and the daily life of their employees, and to learn about what they need to find their path in a global IT company.

Saverio Romeo said: “The visit to Kaseya was the opportunity to see how a digital business operates and how important skilful and resourceful people are for its success. Jones and his team took our students into the real world of a global and successful digital business company and showed them that great achievements and outstanding careers are not linear. They are mainly defined by commitment and dedication. The desire to go beyond the minimum requirement – doing ‘the additional readings’ as we would say in academia – will take you in places you have never imagined. This was a precious experience for our students and Kaseya was so generous to make that happen.”

This trip directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4: Quality Education and 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth.
