Westminster Business School (WBS) hosted a series of Next Steps events on 30 January bringing industry figures and real-life clients on campus. These events were designed to help final year students explore their options for further study, career planning and professional networking, providing valuable insights and resources to shape their future.

Students had the opportunity to attend a selection of events depending on their interests. The Master’s Fair as well as the Get Into Master’s workshop aimed to explore a range of postgraduate opportunities such as Master’s degrees, Postgraduate Certificates in Education (PGCE) and doctoral programmes. Students gained insights into the application process, heard from current postgraduate students about their experiences and were able to meet representatives to discuss their next academic steps.
Also, Simon Richardson, Academic Exchange Co-ordinator for WBS and Co-Course Leader of Business Management (Entrepreneurship) BA Honours, introduced Dami Hastrup, the founder and CEO of Moonhub VR, to the Business Management BA Honours students from the School of Organisations, Economy and Society (SOES). Hastrup briefed the students on his current strategy to set the task of developing future strategy options. An insight into how he obtained backing from household names such as Meta, Google and Disney and the current business model provided a foundation to the strategy project which students will share with Dami Hastrup in the summer as part of Westminster’s Students as Co-creators (SCC) project.
This follows the successful project with Richmond Pharmacology, where final-year International Business BA Honours students presented strategy findings through the SCC programme, resulting in two students securing three-week placements. Similarly, the second cohort of Business Management students in the second semester will present their findings to both Moonhub VR and Choco AI Consulting in June, continuing the module’s focus on authentic assessment and real employability opportunities.
Simon Richardson said: “The Strategic Perspectives module follows the authentic learning and assessment objective in the University Education strategy to deliver real employability opportunities to final year students. Two students have been given three-week placements from Richmond Pharmacology after a strategy pitch to their HR team Usman Ahmed and Bhavesh Ganesh, which we are very proud of.”

The day concluded with a networking event in the Learning Platform where final-year students had the opportunity to connect with alumni, peers and professionals. This allowed them to build their network and explore career pathways.
This event directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education and 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
