About me
I have been a full time Senior Lecturer in the School of Organisations, Economy and Society within the Westminster Business School since May 2021. Currently Co-Course Leader for BA BM with Entrepreneurship with previous roles including BM HRM Course Leader and Knowledge Exchange Lead (academic enterprise) for SOES. I was a Visiting Lecturer with Westminster Business School since September 2014 and a part time Senior Lecturer teaching reward for the Masters in HRM since September 2016. Prior to a university career, I was a founder member of the Total Reward Group in 2005 providing Reward services to commercial and not for profit organisations which was integrated into the Gallagher Insurance and Consulting Group in 2018. Clients included SPX Engineering, Computacenter, Twentieth Century Fox, Foster + Partners, Sompo insurance, University of Sussex, Ineos and Ipsos Mori.
Before TRG, I held in-house Senior HR roles at PwC and Logica CGI mainly specialising in Global Mobility, staff utilisation and recruitment. I designed a CIPD Global mobility training course for the Advanced Award in Reward Management programme from 2010 until 2018 and was awarded Fellowship of the CIPD in 2005. Winner of the 2024 Go Westminster award for Making an Outstanding Contribution to Our Priorities.
I graduated in English literature from the University of Wales in 1986 followed by a Diploma in Personnel Management with the University of Westminster in 1992 and QTS with Kent and Medway Training in 2007 where I taught in local secondary schools for a year. Recent qualifications include a PGCHE at Westminster followed by a Masters in Higher Education with Distinction at Middlesex University with a research dissertation on Authentic Learning and Assessment. I am very committed to bridging the employability skills gap by addressing the needs of external employers in an inclusive way through module projects.
Teaching
Currently I lead a number of Level 6 modules including Leadership, Coaching and Strategy which incorporate real life case studies from industry. I currently teach Post Graduate modules in Skills of the Consultant and Reward Management as well as supervise post graduate student dissertations on diverse topics including reward and sustainability. Previously I have led modules on Resourcing and International HRM modules and MBA modules in Global Mobility. My teaching style is interactive, topical, case study driven and applicable to the modern global working environment.
Research
My areas of Research interest are expatriate compensation and benefits, executive pay, Gender Pay Gap, employee benefits and international reward structures. I have published a number of articles on employee benefits in Employee Benefits, Reward & Employee Benefits Association and International HR Adviser magazines. I am also a regular speaker and CIPD and International HR Adviser conferences and past Chair of Central London CIPD branch. I have a particular personal research interest in the issues around developing an understanding of neuro-diversity in the work place and finding ways to improve mental health and well being. My current research activities include writing journal articles on Authentic Learning and Assessment.
