The University of Westminster hosted its second What it Takes event of the 2024-2025 series, where students and recent graduates had the opportunity to hear from alumna Sunita Harley on how to make their voices heard as they navigate their careers.
The What it Takes event series is organised by the Westminster Alumni Relations Office to introduce students and recent graduates to a range of inspiring alumni speakers, who share their experiences and advice on a variety of topics related to employability and development.
The second event of this academic year, which took place online on 20 November, welcomed Human Resource Management MA alumna Sunita Harley, the Founder of the award-winning professional development, coaching and inclusion consultancy Collective Insight.
During the event Sunita offered specialist advice on how to be heard while navigating a career. She shared her top tips with the 48 students and 37 Westminster alumni in attendance, which included expert advice on writing CVs, using LinkedIn and impressing during job interviews. Sunita’s expertise provided valuable insights on how to impress employers not only during the application process but also when starting a new job.
After Sunita’s presentation, students had the opportunity to ask their own questions with a Q&A session. One student commented: “I found the insights on CV writing and LinkedIn profiles incredibly helpful, especially the tips on how to tailor them for specific roles.”
About the event, Sunita said: "It was great designing and delivering a webinar for the What it Takes series for University of Westminster students, graduates and alumni connections. I studied my Human Resource Management MA at the University of Westminster which helped me successfully transition from a career in media, music and fashion to my corporate HR and learning development career. These days, I work as an Executive Coach, Professional Development and Inclusion Consultant across sectors, so it was brilliant sharing lots of helpful know-how during this webinar. Thanks to everyone who dialled in or who watches this webinar on YouTube."
The What it Takes series contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth and 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
