The University’s ‘What Comes Next’ panel series concluded for the 2021/22 academic year with an event welcoming recent Biochemistry, Biomedical and Biological Sciences graduates who shared their insights into what you can do with your degree once you have graduated on 30 March 2022.
‘What Comes Next’ is a course-aligned event series designed to support improvement in Westminster’s Graduate Outcomes, through raising awareness and confidence in the breadth of careers that are possible and accessible to students following their degree.
This Bio Sciences panel was the fourth event of the pilot series, following successful events for Politics and International Relations students, Psychology students and Criminology students.
The panel was chaired by Dr David Gaze, Senior Lecturer in Chemical Pathology and School of Life Sciences Employability Director, and welcomed a diverse panel of graduates such as Orlando Ross, Technologist at Abbott, who completed the Biomedical Sciences BSc Honours course in 2021; Bradley Moon, Biomedical Scientist at Addenbrooke's Hospital, who completed the same course in 2020; and Sharon Lam, Physician Associate at Pinner Road Surgery, who completed this course in 2017.
Speaking about the event, Dr Gaze said: “With over 70 student attendees, there was an interesting and lively debate where undergraduates were able to ask about career progression, career options, the value of placements and work experience, and on reflection how Westminster helped the alumni with their employability skills. There has been great feedback from those who attended, and we wish to expand this across all our life science courses. My thanks also go to Alex and Haydn from the Alumni team, without whom this event would not have been possible.”
Speaker Orlando Ross added: “It was great to participate in the Bio Sciences Alumni Panel and impart a little wisdom on working life after graduation!”
