Following Westminster’s ‘What it Takes’ series, the University launches the first event of its new series ‘What Comes Next’ featuring successful alumni speakers.
‘What Comes Next’ is a course-aligned event series designed to support improvement in Westminster’s Graduate Outcomes, through raising awareness and confidence in the breadth of careers that are possible and accessible to students following their degree.
Operating across priority courses in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 2021-22, the event series features panels of recent graduates, who will share with current students their own stories regarding what they each did with their degree, and demonstrate a range of ‘highly skilled destinations’.
On 17 November, the Alumni Relations team’s What Comes Next alumni panel event for second and third year Politics and International Relations students took place with 55 student attendees. A panel of recent Politics and International Relations (PIR) graduates shared their insights into what students can do with their degree after finishing university. They discussed how their experience at Westminster helped them discover their own interests and find employment after graduation, as well as sharing their own tips and advice on how students can navigate their own pathways.
The panel included Dr Magdalena Frennhoff Larsen, Assistant Head of School in the School of Social Sciences and Senior Lecturer in PIR; Georgiana Mariut, a 2018 International Relations and Development BA Hons graduate who currently works as a Principal Consultant at NINE at Satigo; Tasfia Sufi, a 2018 International Relations BA Hons graduate who currently works as a Higher Executive Officer at the Cabinet Office; and Bertany Berty Mounkela, is a 2019 International Relations and Development BA Hons graduate, and works in Investor Relations at Edison Group.
Dr Magdalena Frennhoff Larsen commented on this event, saying: “It’s wonderful to see former Politics and International Relations students in such exciting and important areas of work. They provided great insights into their different career journeys, and I think it really inspired our current students, and also reassured them that there are plenty of opportunities out there. As a School, we are delighted to work with the Alumni Relations team on events like these.”
Tasfia Sufi also said: “It was an honour to come back to Westminster to speak to the students and give them advice as it wasn't long ago that I was in the same position, and would have loved to have this opportunity. I'm glad I could be of assistance and hope that the advice given will help them in their careers.”
