The University hosted the How to get into the Marketing Industry event on 13 March at its Marylebone Campus. The event was attended by over 140 students and featured nine panel members from various marketing and advertising disciplines.
How to get into the Marketing Industry was organised by Zakia Khan, a Recruiter Engagement Officer at the University. Senior Lecturer and Director of Employability for the School of Management and Marketing Nic Sanders hosted the event.
The event was split into two parts. It began with a question-and-answer session led by Nic Sanders, which provided some valuable insights from panel members on how to get noticed, the skills and tasks involved in the various marketing roles and ways in which to forge a career path. The second part of the event provided space for students to individually network with panel members.
Leonard Sekyonda, founder at MYCOMEUP, spoke about talent management and influencer marketing, while James Swain, Director at Catalyst Creative, discussed integrated marketing. Lizzy Lindquist, Account Executive at OMD, attended to give the perspective of media agencies, and Mikhail Hanney, Director of Client Services and Strategy at Pulse Advertising, represented influencer marketing and social media. Nick Adams, owner and CEO at Sense Marketing, spoke from the experience of global brand experience and engagement agencies.
Ali Wallace, founder and CEO at DNA Recruit, represented recruitment in marketing, digital creative and technology roles, while Jez Frampton, former global CEO at Interbrand and Visiting Lecturer at the University, attended the event to teach about brand strategy and consultancy. Peace Pitchayut Siriapaipan, Junior Social Media Campaign Manager at Havas People, shared expertise on employer branding and recruitment marketing, and Victoria Brown, Enterprise and Employee Communications Supervisor at McDonald's, represented communications.
