The event took place on campus in the newly refurbished Computer Science and Engineering ‘Innovation Space’ and was organised in collaboration with, and sponsored by, Netcompany, an IT services company that delivers business-critical strategic IT projects to public and private sectors customers across Europe.

During the event, ten students, who were nominated by their supervisors, presented the results of their final year project to IT professionals from Netcompany who acted as judges and evaluated the projects of the participating students.

At the end of the event, four students received prizes from Netcompany including 1st prize, 2nd prize, 3rd prize and the Social Impact prize. The remaining six students received £50 Amazon vouchers from the School for their achievements.

The event was a success and with the great feedback received, the School intends to make it an annual event in the future. The event also presented an opportunity for students to network with Netcompany representatives and discuss graduate career opportunities at the company and beyond.

Huseyin Dagdeviren, Senior Lecturer and Director of Employability in the School of Computer Science and Engineering who led the event from Westminster, said: “It was a great event, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The room was buzzing with discussions and interactions. It was also an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of our students. Huge congratulations to all award winners and the nominees who did a fantastic job, not only in their projects but also on the day of presenting their projects to company representatives. Many thanks to Netcompany for their support and collaboration.”

Deepa Nair, Talent Acquisition Manager from Netcompany, who supported the organisation from Netcompany and attended the event, said: “It was a joy to attend the event at the University of Westminster. The projects created by Computer Science students were of high quality, going as far as testing the outcomes on real users which was very impressive. Judges had a very difficult time evaluating and coming to a decision on the winners as all were good. The support and development provided to the students was so evident in the projects displayed. Staff were so attentive during the whole event. We would look forward to a long-term collaboration with the University of Westminster.”

Alexandru-Mihai Dragomir, who received the 1st Prize, said: “I have never felt so happy and proud of any achievements up to this point, as I feel that my work is appreciated and looked up to. Being a student at the University of Westminster and dealing with such tough competition has made me work harder than ever, and today I felt that it paid off.”

Tomasz Wasowski, who received the 3rd prize, said: “The event has been an amazing opportunity to not only make new connections and catch up with everyone, but to also appreciate the other students' final year projects. The event really felt like a meaningful conclusion to my degree, having spent the time with my peers and many lecturers that have supported me through the years. It is an experience that I will cherish for a long time and being a part of it was an honour and an absolute pleasure.”

Talking about the importance of corporate support, Simay Sali Sevik, Development Manager at Westminster said: “It is important that students’ projects and talents are recognised by the experts in the sectors. We are grateful to Netcompany for sharing their expertise and awarding the best students. I look forward to seeing students’ progress and building upon this partnership long-term with Netcompany.”
