Dr Manal Mohammed, Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology and Course Leader of Medical Sciences BSc Honours at the University of Westminster, has won the Professional Excellence Award at the G2T Global Awards 2024.
The annual awards celebrate individuals that have made outstanding contributions in their professions and have exemplified high value, commitment to service and outstanding leadership. They recognise visionary leaders who have made significant contributions to their respective industries.
The award ceremony took place on 27 April in Marrakech, Moracco, and was attended by government officials from a range of countries including Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Egypt, Sudan, Oman and Moracco. During the event Dr Mohammed also gave a presentation about the variety of courses available at Westminster’s School of Life Sciences.
Dr Mohammed teaches a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses that delve into Microbiology, Medical Microbiology and Microbial Genomics across a variety of modules including Infection and Immunity, Medical Microbiology in the Genomics Era and Applied Pathobiology. Each course offers hands on experience which holds teamwork, research and employability at its core. As well as working on their own projects, students get the opportunity to contribute to research projects of their peers, PhD students and academics, gaining vital skills and building their network.
Dr Mohammed said: “I am very delighted that I was nominated for the G2T Global Award and receive the Professional Excellence Award in academia. Of course, I am very grateful to the continuous support by the School of Life Sciences and Westminster that enables me to achieve success in both teaching and research in Medical Microbiology.”

Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
