Dr Anastasia Denisova, Senior Lecturer in the School of Media and Communications at the University of Westminster, has been quoted in an article for Wired magazine about how The Queen inspired plenty of memes on social media and her early enthusiasm for technology.

The article discusses how The Queen defied stereotypes about women her age by becoming an early advocate of the internet, and why ‘the disparity between her serious standing and less-than-solemn actions’ made her the focus of memes amongst social media users.

Speaking about why mystery is what makes The Queen an enduring meme, Denisova commented: “The queen is a vehicle for adding memetic subjectivity. The iconography of the queen is very strong too, which makes her perfect material for remixing, along with Che Guevara, Keanu Reeves, and Willy Wonka.”
