We celebrated the fourth year of our partnership with The Howard de Walden Estate, who have generously funded two annual scholarships totalling £18,000.

The scholarships provide full accommodation costs to two students who have been estranged from their families. This support from The Howard de Walden Estate offers students a lifeline during the most critical time of their studies and has had an incredible impact on many of the recipients, with some scholars surpassing previously predicted grades and achieving with first-class honours degrees.

Laura Vanesa Sanchez

Laura Vanesa Sanchez Hincapie, BSc Hons Biomedical Sciences, was one of the recipients in 2021–22.

"Howard de Walden Estate funding had a significant impact on my life and allowed me to focus on my studies rather than finding additional work that would distract from my studies.

People like me want to succeed in life and make something of our lives, but without support while, on a full-time degree, it isn't easy. The funding provides a game-changer to us, a new opportunity in life to overcome ourselves. To feel that someone believes in us and it's betting on our futures feels so encouraging, not only financially but emotionally.

Thank you to The Howard de Walden Estate for the excellent opportunity to help me so much when I most needed it. This funding changed the course of my life!"

As well as the scholarships that Howard de Walden provide, they support our students in various ways, including participating in the Westminster Working Cultures UK virtual programme and Future Ready Mentoring programmes.
