What stands out most about the University of Westminster is its many opportunities and support systems for personal and professional growth.

From career advancement to sports and hobbies, and even fostering new friendships, the university is dedicated to nurturing diverse interests and aspirations.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

What attracted me to the University of Westminster was its offering of an Event Management course, setting it apart from numerous other institutions. The modules within the course aligned perfectly with what I was seeking, providing both excitement and value for my professional advancement. Beyond the course, I was interested by the wide array of extracurricular activities and opportunities for student development that Westminster had to offer.

How has your experience been studying in London?

It took me some time to grasp and adjust to the new education system, but with the help of my lecturers and the support teams at the University of Westminster, I was able to adapt quickly.

Studying in London has been a dream come true for me. The city is a source of inspiration, motivating me to pursue and achieve my goals. I still find it hard to believe that I'm studying just five minutes away from Baker Street, a place I've read about since childhood!

London is also a melting pot of cultures from around the world, providing ample opportunities to experience diverse cultures and learn new things.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I appreciate that the knowledge I've gained in the Event Design and Management MA course is highly practical and can be directly applied in future work scenarios. The course incorporates numerous real-life examples, which enhances its practicality. Additionally, I value the diversity in teaching methods, including lectures, workshops, and various activities, which enriched my learning experience.

During the first semester, we had the opportunity to participate in a trip to another city as part of an assignment. Despite its academic purpose, it was an enjoyable experience that helped us bond and connect better with one another.

While assignments can sometimes be stressful, I find them all genuinely interesting. They encourage creativity and provide freedom to express ideas, which I find both stimulating and fulfilling.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

In my course, the academic team provide extensive support. They are readily available to address any questions and are always open to communication.

Additionally, we have personal tutors who are part of the teaching staff. They are available to assist with any questions related to studies, assessments, career guidance, or personal matters.

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service.

I am currently participating in the Career Mentoring Programme, which involves being paired with a mentor for six months. Together, we establish goals and develop strategies to achieve them during our regular meetings. While mentors are typically selected from the same industry as the course of study, experts from related fields may occasionally be assigned. This program caters to individuals at various stages of their careers, whether just starting or seasoned professionals.

As I have significant experience in events management, I have been matched with a mentor with whom I am focusing on enhancing leadership skills and exploring career advancement opportunities. This program presents an excellent opportunity to advance one's career, develop new skills, and acquire additional knowledge.

Personally, communicating with a mentor was particularly beneficial when I experienced a loss of motivation. Having someone to talk to, receive feedback, and seek advice on various matters provided invaluable support. It created a sense of belonging and solidarity within the academic community, making me feel like a valued member of a family.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

In addition to my studies, I proudly serve as a Course Representative, advocating for students' needs and concerns within our course. This role involves participating in training sessions and engaging in various activities designed for course representatives, such as our recent and enjoyable board game party.

Additionally, I am involved in the history society, which fosters a welcoming community. We regularly gather to explore museums and exhibitions, with our most recent outing being a tour of Parliament.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

My advice would be to take advantage of the wealth of information the university provides to help you prepare for your studies. The initial weeks are packed with activities designed to introduce you to the diverse opportunities available. I recommend doing your research on the university’s website before your studies begin. Rest assured, the university ensures that all essential information is readily accessible and provided to you.
