Multimedia Journalism MA (Broadcast) – 2024

I’ve always loved journalism. Working for one of the biggest media organisations in the world is incredible.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose Westminster for its central location and the opportunity to learn from experienced journalists with industry insights, supported by an incredible team of staff. The hands-on approach stood out to me, with a strong focus on practical learning over theory. Plus, the modules perfectly aligned with what I wanted to learn.

How has your experience been studying in London?

It’s been absolutely wonderful. I feel like a global citizen now, having had the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and experience different cultures. I love London - it’s such a dynamic and exciting place to study.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

The course was hectic - exactly as it should be - with lots of deadlines. But the best part was how practical it was with hands-on experience across radio, television and online content creation. The newsdays were especially memorable, fast-paced, high-pressure, but absolutely amazing.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The academic support has been brilliant. I have to give a special mention to Dr Aasiya Lodhi, who was my personal tutor and lecturer. I can’t imagine getting through the course without her constant support, guidance, and mentorship. No matter how many “silly” questions I asked, she always had the best advice. I’d also like to mention lecturer Jim Grice, amongst many others.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The equipment is high quality, from – cameras and tripods to editing desktops, and professional mics. If you know what you need, the University likely has it, and if not, they’ll find a way to make it happen. The radio, podcast, and TV studios are all industry-standard too.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

Go for it. It’s brilliant, and you’ll enjoy it.

What’s the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The centrally located campuses, world-class facilities, incredible staff, and a good alumni network.

What are you doing now?

I’m working as a video journalist for the BBC in London.

What aspects of your job do you enjoy the most?

I’ve always loved journalism. I worked as a journalist before coming to the UK for my Master’s, but working for one of the biggest media organisations in the world is incredible. It was my dream to work for the BBC, and now I’m living that dream.

What advice would you offer someone considering a career in your field?

If you’re ready to work hard, embrace challenges, stay calm under pressure, meet tight deadlines, and stay true to your ethics, this field can be incredibly rewarding. Telling someone’s story and seeing it make a real difference is an experience like no other - it’s truly fulfilling.
