Finance BSc Honours
All of the lecturers are extremely friendly and would rather the students talk to them if they're feeling confused. If I didn't communicate with my lecturers, I don't think that I would have done as well as I have so far.
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I was originally going to study a Science degree but had already decided from my time in sixth form that I wanted to go into a career in Finance – inspired by newly developed cat allergies, which prevented me from being a Veterinarian. So, when I went through clearing I was looking for a university that would accommodate my A-levels as I didn't have an A-level in Maths. Luckily, Westminster welcomed me with open arms. The Bloomberg-powered Financial Markets Suite was quite the incentive as well.
How has your experience been studying in London?
It's been interesting, from both the online and in-person perspectives. As a student who lives at home, I have a variety of routes (both train and bus) to get to University, which is great because I get to experience a variety of views and spontaneous adventures if I decide to hop off the train. Also, being based at Marylebone means that there is a comfortable flow of people walking past you and it's not too overwhelming. The campus is right next to Baker Street and about 15 minutes away from Oxford street, so the fun never ends at Westminster.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
I've really enjoyed creating portfolios for a few of my modules and learning about corporate governance. It makes me happy to learn that some companies actually value their stakeholders.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
All of the lecturers are extremely friendly and would rather the students talk to them if they're feeling confused than struggle in silence. If I didn't communicate with my lecturers, I don't think that I would have done as well as I have so far.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
The Bloomberg-powered Financial Markets Suite and the Thomson Reuters terminal.
Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service
The staff are extremely friendly and give clear and concise information and feedback. It's extremely helpful to see what I can do to better myself.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
In my first year, I took part in Westminster Working Cultures, Mumbai. This opportunity allowed me to experience the working cultures of the university's graduates, from feeding cows, to stepping foot into the Bombay Stock Exchange and learning about initiatives from RUR GreenLife to make Mumbai more eco-friendly from the rooftop of an (at least) 14-story high building. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I am currently the Chairwoman of Westminster Finance Society, as well as the founding Head of the Women in Finance Division. The society's goal is to help push Westminster students to achieve their desired roles within the Financial industry. We've formed partnerships with companies such as AmplifyMe, Zash, Women's Societies Alliance and many more to support our students.
I am also a member of The Sisterhood and ACS. The Sisterhood is a safe place for Black women, transgender, non-binary and queer people. Whereas, ACS is a society where African and Caribbean people come to create a community, both great clubs to be a part of.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
While you should strive to perform the best that you can, make sure you also bask in all the fun you can while it lasts.
