The opportunities to work on real-world projects, engage with guest speakers, and connect with practising professionals exceeded my expectations. This hands-on approach enriched my learning and prepared me for the realities of the professional world. The involvement of the course leader and other tutors has been inspiring.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I selected the University of Westminster for its highly regarded reputation in interior architecture, its innovative curriculum that is grounded in theory, and its prime location in the heart of London. The university's emphasis on cultivating creativity and providing an inclusive learning environment also influenced my decision.

 

How has your experience been studying in London?

Studying in London has been a truly enriching experience. The city's vibrant cultural scene, diverse architecture, and exposure to a global community have all enhanced my understanding of interior architecture. Living in such a dynamic, cosmopolitan city has also given me unique opportunities to network and explore different cultures.

 

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I have particularly enjoyed the hands-on approach to learning in the Interior Architecture MA course. The emphasis on practical projects, collaboration with industry professionals, and exposure to real-world design challenges have allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, making the learning experience highly engaging. The course has also taught me the importance of design as an investigation instead of a whim.

 

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The academic support at the University of Westminster has been excellent. The lecturers are approachable, and various resources are available, including workshops and tutorials, which have contributed significantly to my academic development. The university's commitment to supporting students through their educational journey has been evident through programs like ‘Career Mentorship’ which has been highly beneficial.

 

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The Fabrication Laboratory at the Marylebone Campus has been a driving force for making models and prototypes. Along with well-equipped workshops, these have been the standout facilities at the University of Westminster for me.

These spaces provided a conducive environment for creativity and experimentation, allowing me to bring my design concepts to life.

 

Tell us about your experience using the University Careers and Employability Service

The University Careers and Employability Service has been instrumental in shaping my post-graduation plans. From resume workshops to networking events, the service has provided valuable resources and guidance, helping me navigate the job market and explore career opportunities in interior architecture.

 

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course  

Outside my course, I participated in industry events and community outreach projects. Competitions like Quintin Hogg Trust’s brief to design the lounge area of the university have been valuable learning experiences. These experiences complemented my academic learning and helped me develop practical soft skills and expand my professional network.

 

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

I advise someone considering studying at Westminster to embrace the diverse and dynamic learning environment. Actively engage with the rich cultural offerings of London, take advantage of the various support services like the Mentoring program and online workshops available, and actively participate in extracurricular activities to make the most of the university experience.

 

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The best aspect of being a University of Westminster student is the combination of academic excellence, an industry-focused curriculum, and the vibrant student community. The university provides a platform for holistic development, nurturing academic skills and fostering creativity, leadership, and global awareness.

The most surprising aspect of my Westminster experience was the extent of collaboration with professionals in the industry. The opportunities to work on real-world projects, engage with guest speakers, and connect with practising professionals exceeded my expectations. Your thoughts:

Programs such as Career Mentoring and Start-Up Network have been the most rewarding experiences outside of my course. These programs have allowed me to engage with industry professionals and create a network, one of the most valuable skills I have gained at university.
