Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose to study at the University of Westminster due to its location, especially the Westminster Business School, which is in the heart of the Financial Capital. I personally felt it was a great place to study, with the modern infrastructure and facilities Westminster offers.
I felt that my course was well structured and helped students to become more employable, and you can receive maximum exemptions in professional qualifications, giving you a head start for your future.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
The Accounting BSc was perfect at putting together the required theoretical knowledge and application for students, helping students become more employable. The best part of the program was the year-long placement opportunity I got with the help of the university, which enabled me to put the theory I learnt at university into practice and get a sneak peak of what I would be doing after my graduation.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
The academic support was quite useful. My lecturer would always assist us and give us the best information possible, making Westminster a great place to study.
Did you use the University Careers and Employability Service in securing a placement?
Yes, the Careers and Employability team was fabulous. They assisted me throughout my application process and have supported me numerous times in making it successful. They also took a lot of time and effort in correcting me and giving advice, which helped me get this placement. Special credits to Emily Whinnett for her contribution.
What was the application process for your placement?
First, I submitted a copy of my CV and cover letter to the company I was applying to, and then I was shortlisted for an interview. Before my main interview, I also had an interview with the University and had to pass an Excel exam to show that I was proficient in the programme. Finally, I had an interview with the company for about an hour, after which I found out I was successful.
How has your course helped you with your work placement?
The course has given me the opportunity to put the theory I’ve learnt at University into practice. In addition, it has been a bridge for understanding some of the tasks I do at work, making it easier for me to complete specific tasks.
What have you learnt and what skills did you gain during your placement?
Some of the skills I have gained during my placement include team working skills, software skills, time management, learning how to prioritise a workload and most importantly, communication.
How do you plan to use your placement experience in your professional future?
My placement experience was definitely a kickstart for me when applying for jobs after graduation, as it has given me a great work experience which helps me stand out in the job market. It has also helped me develop a lot of skills which will help me to reach my future goals.
What would be your advice to someone considering studying at Westminster?
The University of Westminster is a great place to study. The importance they give towards preparing you for future employment is truly unbelievable.
