Music Business Management MA – 2022

There are ample opportunities in London, and with a network and university support like Westminster’s, you are bound to make the most of your time here and achieve all that you envision for your professional journey.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

When I was researching courses in Music Business Management, I came across just a handful of universities in the world that offer this niche course and recognise the value in supporting candidates who want to pursue the business aspect of the music industry. Amongst them, the University of Westminster was my first preference for four main reasons. One, the location being London (which is a known global music hub). Two, the reputation that comes with a brand like the University of Westminster and the networks I hoped to build as a student. Three, the teaching faculty, who are coveted names in the music industry and champion the cause of diversity and inclusion and four, the feedback I got from previous students, who rate the course and all the experiences that come with it.

How has your experience been studying in London?

I have always admired what London has to offer, especially because it represents a mix of cultures and is home to one of the most progressive creative industries in the world. I feel that doing a Music Business course in the city can be a gratifying experience for someone in the industry, as opportunities are available for anyone who seeks to grow personally and professionally. I, for one, feel more “global” in my outlook on life just by the interactions I have had and the network I have built through this course.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

The faculty and the guest lecturers are by far the highlights of this course. I have also enjoyed how the modules and assessments are crafted; they are interactive and application-based rather than just theoretical. As someone doing this course in their mid-career phase, I came in with the expectation of using the course to build a network more than anything else, but surprisingly, each class has been a revelation to me. I have learned so much in my time here, especially when it comes to introspective and critical thinking of the industry. Additionally, the multi-cultural community of music lovers within the class makes it exciting and enjoyable to go to class each time.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The lecturers across the modules have been very supportive, and I believe they play an integral role in developing each student's identity and industry expertise. The staff have been extremely approachable and invited conversations with one and all, whether it be consulting on career paths, functions, entrepreneurial ideas or empowering the class to critically and incisively look at current issues within the music industry.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The Guest Lecturer Sessions and Library access stood out to me the most.
