Contemporary Media Practice BA – 2023 (expected)
You don't have to be worried about choosing the University of Westminster. It is a place where you can take ownership of your creative ideas and experiment without any barriers or fears. The tutors are friendly, helpful and caring. My advice would be to dream big, have wild ideas to experiment with, don't be afraid to ask for help and enjoy life at Westminster. It is a safe haven for creatives to explore more.
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
As a mature student, I was very critical about choosing the right university. I wanted my university to be welcoming and warm. I wanted a sanctuary for all my creative ambitions and ideas. I attended one of the open day events and got to experience the culture and see the facilities that Westminster has to offer. I developed a sense of comfort and support in my early engagements with the university and chose it for that reason.
How has your experience been studying in London?
London is diverse and rich in culture. People from all over the world move here to experience living in one of the best cities in the world. Adapting to London life was hard in the beginning. I’m grateful for the resources, opportunities and challenges living in London has offered me.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
Contemporary Media Practice is a course where you can try out almost everything. It is multidisciplinary and touches all the compulsory skills you need in today’s media world. As CMP students we make films, animations, projections, VR environments and even music videos. I’m sure that we will go out into the industry with all the necessary skills needed to face the challenges that the industry might hold.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
Along with my studies, I’ve been able to get help for my personal development, skill-building and other assistance from the university as part of my course. I’ve also had the opportunity to mentor new students and to engage in co-curricular activities at the University.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
I would like to mention the Emerging Media Space (EMS) at our campus. It’s really inspiring to get to know more about the interesting technologies out in the world. We can use the resources available to use and we have a huge amount of help from the instructors at the EMS.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
I have engaged in several activities with the Students' Union. The most interesting one was the FANS programme. 'FANS' stands for Friends of Arriving New Students. I was working with one of my seniors on the CMP course to help new students when they arrived on campus for the first time in September 2021. It was a great feeling assisting the new students to navigate and settle on their course. It was a delight to help them, get to know them and be a part of their University journey. I would join the FANS programme again to help more students feel welcome during Arrivals Week.
