What are you doing now?

I am currently working as an Assistant Manager at KPMG Germany in Frankfurt in the Audit, Assurance and Advisory department.

My role as an Auditor comprises of reviewing the accounts of both listed and non-listed companies. I check that financial reports are accurate and reliable as well as ensure that the legality of their financial records is in accordance with the respective GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.)

I also examine the internal control system and relevant processes that could have an impact on the Financial Statements and recommend possible risk aversion measures to be implemented in order to improve the presentation of Financial Statements.

What did you find most valuable about your course at Westminster? How did the skills you learnt during your degree help you to shape your career?

The Accounting with Management course helped me to obtain a part-time managerial role in the business sector while I was studying.

Upon successful completion, the course provided me with not only the technical skills but also the required soft skills to succeed in today’s competitive job market. It served me with a widespread knowledge base that put me ahead of the curve when I began working for KPMG.

The Modules that I was offered throughout the three years allowed me to receive 9 exemptions from ACCA prior to starting ACCA’s accountancy qualification.

Choosing the University of Westminster for my education was not only a great decision, it was a blessing!

Why would you recommend Westminster as a place to study?

The environment of the University of Westminster and its surroundings are very welcoming. The University offers great learning facilities including effective support from top quality professors and it is also located in the heart of London.

The Accounting and Management BSc course here with its teaching style is fantastic. The Students' Union are very active and helpful, and it is easy to start up societies with them.

I give a great deal of credit for any success I have had in my professional career to the education and teaching I received at the University of Westminster from my professors and tutors.

What was the best thing about being a student in London?

I have always aimed to pursue a career in business and education in London as it is the most diverse, welcoming city and the world's leading financial centre for business and commerce.

Studying in London has provided me with a global network of friends, not only because it is the top choice for international students, but also because it is an international destination and hot spot for foreign travellers.

The academic and student life was great. There were many clubs to experience consisting with the most spectacular night-life scene in the world. You can always find a group of people to engage with no matter where you are and at any time.

When it comes to things to do in London, the list goes on and on with something for every kind of young personality e.g. attractions, concerts, events, theatre and performances of all types and styles.

What extra-curricular activities did you participate in that enhanced your time at the University?

My advice to future students would be to make sure you make the most out of your experience in London and especially at the University of Westminster. Make sure you go over the work independently - independent study is the key to success. Try to get involved in events, create a great network of friends and do not forget to socialise while in London. Ultimately, make sure you join the alumni community when you graduate in order to receive invites to attend networking events because that will be invaluable to your future success.
