Women in STEM British Council Scholarship

The Women in STEM British Council Scholarship is a transformative initiative designed to empower women from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue postgraduate education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The programme supports future leaders, innovators, and role models in these fields, helping to reduce the global gender gap in STEM industries.

This prestigious scholarship, offered in partnership with the British Council, provides financial support and fosters a network of talented women dedicated to making impactful contributions to STEM advancements worldwide.

Amount

Full Tuition Fees: Full fee coverage for eligible one year taught master’s course.
Monthly Stipend: Up to 12-months stipend to cover living costs while studying in the UK.
Travel Expenses: One return economy-class travel from home country to UK.
Health Coverage: Student Visa and NHS surcharge costs.
Other: IELTS exam fee (for scholars without a valid test of English).

The scholarship applies to the following postgraduate programmes within the STEM disciplines and within the School of Life Sciences:

Criteria

To qualify for the Women in STEM British Council Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Offer: Hold an offer of admission to one of the eligible postgraduate programmes at the University of Westminster.
  • Gender Identification: Open to all women or those identifying as female who can demonstrate a strong background in STEM fields.
  • Nationality: Be a passport holder and permanent resident of one of the eligible countries listed below:-

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia

  • Academic Excellence: Possess an excellent academic record and  / or evidence of significant relevant working experience in STEM disciplines.
  • Commitment to Home Country: Commit to contributing to local STEM industries in their home country after completing their studies.
  • Funding: Applicants should be able to demonstrate a case for financial support / socio-economic need. They must be self-funded and classified as overseas fee payer.  Students receiving a repayable loan to fund their studies will be considered as self-funded. Applicants must not be receiving another scholarship.
  • Overseas study: Applicants must not have previously studied at degree level or higher in the UK or lived recently in the UK. Distance learning at a UK university or study at a UK branch campus in another country will be considered as studying in the UK.
