The Royal Television Society Student TV Awards encourage, nurture, support and reward talent, potential and enthusiasm of students in colleges and universities for the creation of film and video content.

The awards offer students the opportunity to put their creative talents before the critical eye of professionals, win recognition for their skills and to take their first steps in the television, media and film industry.

Projects from Westminster’s Film BA Honours and Animation BA Honours courses make up six of the nominations across the categories.

Bhabog Bheo (The Living Doll) is a film nominated in the Factual - Short Form category. It was produced by a group of students, with the most heavily involved being Katie McElligott Ryan who was the Director, Tara McNamee who was the Producer, Sydney Waldman who was the Editor and Director of Photography, and Catherine Burr who managed the sound.

Fortune Favours the Fantabulous is a film nominated for an award in the Entertainment and Comedy Drama. This film was also the product of many Westminster students’ work. The students involved, who are now alumni, were Director Emmanuel Li, Producer Ana Ungureanu, Michael Doran who was the Director of Photography, and Phoebe Baker and David Kmet who worked on the production design. Li received funding from the Ignite Fund in 2023 to put towards the production of the film.

Baker and Kmet have also been nominated separately for the Production Design category for their contribution to this project.

Simme Tutt' uno has been nominated as a film in the Factual - Long Form category. Key students involved, now alumni, involved in this project were Alice Franchi who was the Director, Yasmin Boxall who was the Producer and Director of Photography Freddie Logan.

Simme Tutt' uno is also nominated in two further categories including the Craft of Camera category and Craft Writing. Logan and Franchi therefore have a second chance at winning an award.

Animation BA alumnus Ilirian Camaj has been nominated in the Animation category, the Craft Production Design category and the Craft Sound category for his project Mind.

Speaking about his animation, Ilirian Camaj said: “It is based on The Yellow Wallpaper by C.P.Gilman, a story with a twist at the end of it. It portrays a woman's mental struggle and her descent into psychosis. I am really touched that my animation seems to have made a connection with people.”

Animation Course leader Stephen Ryley added: “We are extremely proud of all our students, and it is great to see that their amazing work is being acknowledged by the mainstream broadcast industry.”
