The Cyber Security and Forensics MSc course has been fully certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), which leads the UK's cyber security mission and forms part of the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
The NCSC provides certification to degree apprenticeships, Bachelor's, Integrated Master's and Master’s degrees in Cyber Security and closely related fields.
Westminster’s Cyber Security and Forensics MSc course is already accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), the Chartered Institute for IT, and the certification of the course by the NCSC will further enhance Westminster students’ employability in the ever-growing cyber security industry.
The Cyber Security and Forensics MSc course provides students with an understanding of the nature of the security threats that face computer systems and the type of information that is stored on digital devices, and how it can be extracted from them. Whilst studying, they have access to state-of-the-art technologies and resources including a dedicated forensics computer laboratory with an extensive range of software, including the use of specialised software tools and packages for cyber security and forensics. Furthermore, they can benefit from presentations by industry professionals who regularly appear as guest speakers.
Speaking about how the certification by the NCSC will benefit students, Dr Ayman El Hajjar, Senior Lecturer in Cyber Security and Forensics and Course Leader for both the Cyber Security and Forensics MSc course and Cyber Security and Forensics BSc Honours course, said: “We are thrilled about being certified by the NCSC. This certificate is a testament to how relevant our course is and how it aligns with NCSC objectives towards securing the UK information systems landscape. This is not only an acknowledgement of the quality of our Cyber Security and Forensics MSc course by one of the best governmental cyber security agencies in the world but also of the team delivering this course and their work.”
Dr Philip Trwoga, Head of the School of Computer Science and Engineering, added: “NCSC certification on the Cyber Security and Forensics MSc course will give our students a distinct advantage. The certified course will equip the student with the specialized knowledge and practical skills that are in high demand and will enhance career prospects further in the ever-growing field of cyber security. It also gives potential employers the confidence that our students have graduated from a course with industry-recognised credentials and one that has met the NCSC’s rigorous standards.”
