The University of Westminster has been busy with multiple refurbishment projects over the summer to enhance the student and teaching experience from the new academic year. The new areas are set to support students and colleagues across the University by providing more spaces to collaborate, learn and engage within the Westminster community.
At Westminster’s Marylebone Campus the library is undergoing a full refresh with a whole floor set to see new student study and group working spaces. The look and feel of the areas will be improved by introducing timber finishes and soft colours, along with some book collection spots. The existing Bloomberg Financial Marketing Suite on the campus will also be fully transformed with a new layout to simulate the desk arrangement of a real-life Bloomberg Suite, with updated computers and AV facilities. New prayer and meditation spaces will also be brought to life on the Marylebone Campus, with timber finishes, calming images and ablution facilities.

Over at Westminster’s Cavendish Campus a set of new features are coming, including a new state of the art science lab containing fume cupboards, multi screens and lab benching with a water and gas supply for 80 students.
Refurbishments will also be taking place across the Copland Building at the Cavendish Campus. An open plan office will be created which will include spaces for colleagues to meet with students, social rooms and recording pods. New computer labs will also be added as well as break out spaces, a dedicated games room and a collaboration office.

Westminster’s Little Titchfield Street will introduce four new authentic learning teaching rooms and large break out and collaboration spaces to the currently unused basement to give it a whole new lease of life.
Over at Westminster’s Wells Street building there will also be big changes, with new meeting and social spaces to be added to the ground floor. The new layout will include booths for Teams calls and break out areas for colleagues, providing a hub of collaboration.
The Harrow Campus will see the arrival of a new Game Hub and Emerging Media Space (EMS) ready for the start of term. The EMS will be designed for maximum flexibility to accommodate developing media equipment, such as VR headsets and projection mapping.
Dr Sal Jarvis, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Education at the University of Westminster, said: “I am excited to see such fantastic environments developing across campus. These specialist learning and teaching rooms and more informal spaces for thinking and collaboration will support colleagues to teach in authentic ways that support our students into graduate employment and entrepreneurship.”
These refurbishments and new additions across the University directly contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, 4: Quality Education and 3: Good Health and Wellbeing. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
