Joseph Burnett, Music Production, Performance and Business BA Honours student at the University of Westminster, is a finalist for the Best TV Sync in Music and Sounds Award 2024, with his track Never Be the Same.
Joseph’s track Never Be the Same was nominated for the award after featuring in Series One of the critically acclaimed BBC Three television show, Boarders.
Never Be the Same, sung and produced by Joseph, was supervised by Dr Mykaell Riley, Director for the Black Music Research Unit (BMRU) and Principal Investigator for Bass Culture Research at the University of Westminster, and Carmen Montañez-Callan at Studio Lambert.
Joseph said: "I couldn't believe it when I heard that Never Be the Same had been nominated for this award! It was a song that I both loved making, but also made very quickly, and in the comfort of my room. It goes to show that you don't always need the biggest, brightest and best of equipment and ideas to reach the masses. I'm truly blessed to have been nominated, to have my songs accompany such beautiful moments like it did in the Boarders TV series, and to get to do it again."
The University’s Music Production, Performance and Business BA Honours course prepares students for a thriving career in the music industry, benefiting from practical experience, interdisciplinary collaborations and strong industry connections within London’s vibrant music scene.
Dr Mykaell Riley, Senior Lecturer in Music, commented: “18 of our students received IMDb credits, but in Joseph reaching the finals of the 2024 Music and Sound Awards for Best TV Sync on BBC Boarders, it demonstrates our Music students’ ability to compete at the highest levels of TV industry, and triumph.”
