Network magazine features news and research highlights, and alumni success stories from across the global Westminster community.

This year’s edition leads with Audio Production alumnus Kim Tae Hak who has recently been awarded a BAFTA Craft Award for his work as a Sound Engineer on the film 1971: The Year That Music Changed Everything. Kim discusses how his time at Westminster opened his eyes to working in the film industry, and the ever-growing demand for cinematic soundscapes in documentary films.

Following the Lionesses’ win at Women’s Euro 2022, the article titled Levelling the Scores looks at the growing opportunities for women in sport. Alumnae and sports journalists Sue Thearle and Kait Borsay explain how the landscape for female pundits and sports players has shifted throughout their careers. Former VP for Activities at Westminster’s Students’ Union Olivia Ponsford also shares what Westminster is implementing to encourage more female students to engage in sporting activities.

Mykaell Riley, Senior Lecturer and founder of Westminster’s Black Music Research Unit, discusses his Bass Culture research project. The extended project looks at the impact of Jamaican music on British culture, mapping the undocumented musical experiences of marginalised communities in the UK.

Meanwhile, alumna and gaming advocate Annabel Ashalley-Anthony shares the work she is doing with her charity Melanin Gamers to champion diversity in the gaming industry and call out online trolls.

Network magazine is just one of the many benefits available to Westminster’s 200,000+ graduates. From discounts on further study, to professional development opportunities and access to Westminster Connect (an exclusive online networking platform), the University provides an array of exclusive benefits to support alumni after graduation.

Commenting on the latest Network magazine, Jenny Stubberfield, Alumni Communications Officer, said: “We have so many fascinating alumni, achieving incredible things around the world. Meeting these graduates and learning what they have accomplished since Westminster is always truly inspiring. It is a pleasure to share their stories with the wider University community through Network magazine.”
