The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021 include more than 1,500 universities across 93 countries and regions, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.

The University has consistently enjoyed excellent ratings both in the UK and globally for its international focus. It has ranked eighth in the UK and 25th in the world for ‘International Students’ in the QS World University Rankings 2021, and in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2020 it has held its place ranking fourth in the UK and 32nd globally for ‘International Outlook’.

Our international students, who come from over 165 countries, make up 49% of our student population, according to the 2021 THE World University Rankings. With such international student diversity, staff from across the globe and a highly international alumni community, the University of Westminster embraces global engagement in all forms.

The University also has a rich mix of international partnerships worldwide, and places particular emphasis on providing international opportunities for students.

Development of cross-cultural communication and understanding is promoted and supported through the Polylang language programme. Students can choose to study from eight diverse languages such as Spanish, Chinese and Arabic, and all levels are catered for.

Undergraduate students also have the opportunity to undertake a study abroad semester or year at an international partner institution, plus many postgraduate and undergraduate courses include international field trips as part of their study experience, with notable past destinations such as Istanbul and Brussels.

Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) is also one of the programmes that reflect the University’s international outlook, through giving students the chance to travel abroad and experience the professional environment and culture in cities across the globe.

Commenting on the ranking, Professor Alexandra Hughes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Employability, said: “At the University of Westminster we are proud to be a welcoming, diverse and inclusive organisation. Our global engagement activity is a key part of that. Our overseas students, colleagues, partners and collaborations are vital to who we are and what we do. We are delighted that this is reflected in the 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.”
