The Future Ready Mentoring team has invited mentors and mentees to join them at Marylebone Campus to celebrate the mentoring relationships created this year. The team took the opportunity to recognise outstanding mentors and announce the Mentor of the Year Award 2023/24 winners.

Future Ready Mentoring at the University of Westminster offers students and recent graduates the chance to learn from industry professionals and enhance their employability through long or short-term career mentoring and in-curriculum group mentoring. The programmes have supported over 2,000 students this academic year with over 4,500 hours of mentoring taking place.

Guests at the event included mentors and mentees who completed the Career Mentoring Programme in the past couple of months, as well as mentors and mentees who had been recently matched. The attendees also included students and mentors who had taken part in Group Mentoring.

The Future Ready Mentoring team took this opportunity to announce the Mentor of the Year Award Winners.

The Mentor of the Year Award for Exceptional Support was awarded to Peter Musumbi, Broadcast Journalist at BBC World Service, and Mona Shah, Multi-Asset Investor. Alexandra-Cristina Oana, Mona Shah’s mentee, said: “Mona’s belief in me, her tireless support, and her invaluable guidance have been instrumental in shaping my journey. For all this and more, my gratitude knows no bounds. Thank you for being my guiding light in a world full of possibilities.”

The Mentor of the Year Award for Alumni was awarded to Gregorio Davico, Export Area Manager, and Gladys Kusiwaa, Biomedical Scientist. The award for Long-standing Support went to Danny GrayDeputy Director at Barts Health NHS Trust, and William Michael, Partner at Taylor Rose MW Solicitors.

The winners for Mentor of the Year Non-Alumni were Cherry Yip, Counsellor, and Maria Giannarak, Lead and Visual & UI Designer at Brunch Gal. Her mentee, Marta Rodriguez Morilla, wrote in the nomination: “María has been an instrumental figure in my personal and professional development throughout this programme, and her mentorship has been pivotal in the significant growth in my confidence and abilities as a student and future freelance graphic designer and illustrator.”

The award for Outstanding Newcomer went to Robert Hume, Senior Development Director at Landsec Plc. The Mentor of the Year Award for Ask a Mentor was awarded to Tina Norden, Partner and Principal at Conrad and Partners.

Last but not least, the Mentor of the Year Award for Group Mentoring went to Lisa Addison, Chief of Growth Sales & Revenue Officer at Cognizant. A mentee from Information Driven Entrepreneurship and Enterprise from Group Mentoring module wrote about their Mentor: “I wish to express my heartfelt appreciation to Lisa for her remarkable intellect, expertise, guidance, and passion for entrepreneurship, which have served as a profound source of inspiration and help towards our coursework development.”
