Westminster holds its FOLIO Showcase 2021

An exhibition showcasing student work from across Westminster’s College of Design, Creative and Digital Industries (DCDI) opened at the Harrow Campus on 11 November.

FOLIO-Showcase-2021

FOLIO is an online portfolio and journaling website for DCDI students at Westminster, which showcases students’ work from a variety of disciplines including photography, paintings, illustrations, sound, music, installations and drawings.

The platform was developed by Jonathan Stockdale, Associate Dean Postgraduate Programme at the Westminster School of Media and Communication, and Andre Pinkowski, Course Leader for the Photography BA course and Academic Lead of FOLIO. It was rolled out across the College to provide a space for students and staff to present work, comment upon, and curate each other’s pieces.

Each student has the opportunity to build both an online portfolio and an electronic journal for the entire duration of their studies, providing a space to showcase their work in progress, and develop Westminster’s online artistic community.

The showcase brings together the work of all courses within DCDI and highlights the diversity of work produced by the students (from Foundation level to PhD). It is the first showcase in conjunction with the Westminster Enterprise (WE) Network in awarding ten prizes selected from all entries, taking into account the extent to which students have constructed their profiles to promote their work to external organisations and to start to develop their future professional careers.

The students awarded the WE Network Portfolio Award were: Celestia Moon – BA Contemporary Media Practice, Elroy Stone – BA Fine Art Mixed Media, Emmanuel Li – BA Film, Finn Woodruff – BA Animation, Joseph Brimicombe – BA Fashion Design, Katerina Cacikova – BA Photography, Malgorzata (Mazana) Jurkiewicz – BA Television Production, Martina Liberini – BA Graphic, Communication Design, Rory Padfield – MA Audio Production, and Velina Drakalieva – BSc Architectural Technology.

Speaking about the showcase, Andre Pinkowski, said: “This is a great stepping stone for all the students featured in the FOLIO Showcase 2021. Displaying work in a public context - online and in a physical exhibition space - open to scrutiny and critical feedback is an important part of any creative discipline. The work exhibited shows the professionalism of our students and the ten winning entries are a great example of the excellent work produced within the various courses.”

The exhibition was organised and curated by FOLIO Technician Emma Stevenson and co-curated by Westminster Alumna Leanne Wiggers.

The exhibition is running until 22nd November at London Gallery West, Harrow Campus. Find out more about FOLIO.
