The Learning on Screen Awards showcase exceptional educational film and television and celebrate broadcast and professional productions, as well as the work of upcoming student filmmakers.

The documentary Simme Tutt’uno focuses on educational inequalities that affect the area of Scampia, Naples, where historic cultural and financial rivalries have created a rich but volatile social climate. This educational documentary celebrates a community attempting to rise beyond the challenges of their collective past. Key students involved in this project, all 2023 alumni of the Film BA Honours course, were Director and Producer Alice Franchi, Co-Producer Yasmin Boxall, Director of Photography Freddie Logan and Editor Alice Sacco.

Alice Franchi said: “A massive thank you to Learning on Screen for awarding Simme Tutt’uno the Higher Education Documentary award. We are very honoured to have received such an important acknowledgment! And a thank you to each and every single person behind the film; being on this journey with you all has been the greatest privilege.”

Course Leader Dr Laura Stephenson said: "I was delighted to enter Simme Tutt’uno into the Learning on Screen Awards, and to have this work acknowledged as a sensitive and well-paced documentary."

Simme Tutt’uno also won an award at the Royal Television Society Student TV Awards this year.

The film directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 10: Reduced Inequalities by drawing attention to education inequalities in Naples. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
