The Westminster Centre for Law, Society and Popular Culture had a busy April 2023.
Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy, helped organise and introduced the Loudest Whispers Short Film Festival, featuring films made by several Westminster students, at St Pancras on 8 April. She also co-curated the Sustainable Planet art exhibition of work by Westminster students which was on display for Earth Day at Lower Stable Street, London N1C 4DR in April and May.
Various members of the Centre contributed to the very successful Westminster Law School-hosted Association of Law Teachers Annual conference taking place between 17-18 April.
27 April marked the 55th anniversary of Fleetwood Mac playing at what is now the main lecture theatre at the University’s Little Titchfield Street site, and the Centre hosted the first ghost gig under the Polyphonic banner. The ghost gigs celebrate the University’s history by playing actual recordings of bands’ performances at the Soho Poly, on the anniversary of the day they took place, in the space they originally took place. The University do these at lunchtime as homage to the ethos of the Soho Poly and its aim to help people ‘disrupt their day with culture’.
The Fleetwood Mac event was a great success, all the more so as someone from the original audience back in 1968, alumnus Allen Sheema, came back to visit (see photo).
