Westminster Business School has been shortlisted for an award in the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Excellence Awards 2021 to recognise its top students trained with the accounting body.
CIMA is a global professional management accounting body based in the UK that offers training and qualifications in management accounting and related subjects.
As part of their work, CIMA’s Academic Partner Excellence Awards give universities and their students' visibility and standing among employers, increasing students’ employability and giving them an unparalleled competitive advantage.
This year, the University of Westminster has been shortlisted in the CIMA Prize-Winner Award category, an exclusive award nomination that recognises the academic partner institution that has trained CIMA’s Top Student of the Year. The nominees are chosen by a central CIMA committee based on students’ pass marks in their CIMA exams which took place in August and November 2020 and February and May 2021.
The University of Westminster has a long-standing relationship with CIMA, allowing students on undergraduate and postgraduate Accounting courses to receive exemptions from CIMA exams.
As part of this working relationship, Westminster and CIMA jointly deliver a number of career-focused activities, including talks on professional accounting qualifications, the job market and the distinct graduate skills that employers require and expect from accounting graduates. Such activities have in the past contributed to the professional development of Westminster’s accounting students and have been viewed as an essential part of the students’ learning experience.
CIMA will host a virtual award celebration to announce the global award winners on Friday 10 December at 9 am.
Talking about the shortlisting, Professor Harry Thapar, Head of the School of Finance and Accounting, said: “On behalf of the School of Finance and Accounting, we are pleased that CIMA has recognised our teaching excellence in accounting and our graduates for their exceptional performances in CIMA exams. The visibility and standing of these nominations highlight the University of Westminster as a premier CIMA provider partner of top-quality education in accounting. Our warmest congratulations to our graduates who have been nominated for this prestigious award. The recognition will provide encouragement for our alumni to continue with their professional development and build employability skills for future careers.”
