This inclusive night brought together the University of Westminster LGBTQ+ community and allies from beyond for an evening of fun entertainment. The evening was hosted by celebrated drag king Don One and was an opportunity for students and the wider community to share their creativity, uniqueness, nerve and talent on stage. The Westminster LGBTQ+ Forum and local LGBTQ+ inclusive football team Soho FC were also represented. Students and guests entertained with acts ranging from moving self-penned songs and poems to brilliantly delivered raps.

Maria Jula, Mentoring Officer and Co-Chair of the Q+ Staff Network, said: “Open MiQ+ Night Three was a success! One thing that seems to transfer across all these events is the freedom of expression without judgment and the feeling of well-being when coming together to express ourselves through art. We’ve had staff members perform, students and even non-Westminster attendees. We plan to continue with these events as they create a much-needed space to express our LGBTQ+ identities, network, and feel we are a true community.”

The Q+ Network, previously the LGBTQ+ Staff Network, is a University group which lobbies for equity and promotes diversity and inclusivity for colleagues at the University of Westminster. They provide a space and voice for colleagues across the University for those from minority sexualities and genders. The term ‘Q+’ has been adopted as an umbrella term to cover the wider Queer community, including but not limited to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer, Intersex, Asexual and Non-Binary Communities.

This event contributed towards the Reduced Inequalities (10) development goal of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which were adopted by the University of Westminster to help make the University a more sustainable, responsible and inclusive place to live, work and study.
