Rehan Latif, who graduated from Westminster Business School in 2002, has set up the Latif Family Bursary to support Westminster students during their studies.
The Latif brothers graduated from Westminster Business School in 2002 and 20 years later, the Latif family is generously offering a grant opportunity to nine UK/home undergraduate students from select courses who are facing financial difficulties during their studies.
The Latif Family Bursary offers nine one-off awards of £1,000 per student to help students during their studies at the University of Westminster. The fund can be used to meet any maintenance needs such as rental costs, childcare, travel or day-to-day costs.
To be eligible to apply for the fund, students must be studying at the Westminster Business School on the Accounting and Business Management BA Honours; Business Management (Economics) BA Honours; Business Management (Entrepreneurship) BA Honours; Business Management BA Honours; Finance and Business Management BA Honours or International Business BA Honours courses.
Applicants must also be a full-time undergraduate UK student in receipt of their full undergraduate student loan (including maintenance-based funding) from the Student Loans Company for 2021/22 and have a household income of less than £25,000 per annum. They must also demonstrate financial need, academic excellence and development potential.
Talking about the hardship fund, Rehan Latif said: “I am very pleased to be able to announce this bursary on behalf of my family. My brother Zain and I remain grateful for the opportunities we received studying at the University of Westminster. I will never forget our first meeting with the Vice Chancellor at the time in September 1999. The University showed considerable flexibility and understanding of our circumstances - we finished our A Levels at the same time between the ages of 14 to 16 - and allowed us to enroll into courses starting that same year. This support remained consistent throughout our period of study and that empathy and positive approach will always be a reminder of my time at the University.
“The cosmopolitan nature of the campus means that you meet an exciting and diverse range of students, and this helped prepare us for our respective careers in the city. We are hopeful that this bursary will give others the same opportunities we were able to benefit from, especially given the unique set of challenges facing students in the current environment.”

Given the current economic climate, it’s important that our alumni recognise the challenges students face and want to give back.
