Westminster alumnus Max Purcell-Burrows performed with musical band TC & The Groove Family at the annual Latitude Festival 2024 on Friday 26 July.
The UK Music Festival, Latitude, takes place every year at Henham Park in Suffolk, and this year it was hosted between 25-28 July. The festival is sponsored by TK Maxx, Three, Co-op, Bacardi and many more, while partnering for media with Virgin Radio UK.
Max graduated from Westminster in Music Business Management MA in 2023 and is now an Artist Manager for musicians B-ahwe and TC & The Groove Family, Management and Label Assistant for Bridge the Gap Management, Publicist & Radio Plugger at independent record label DeepMatter, as well as a Trombonist for TC & The Groove Family. They are a ten-piece collective, originally formed in Leeds, producing songs that explore a variety of genres including afrobeat, broken beat, jungle, jazz and grime. They performed on the BBC Introducing Stage at Latitude alongside Max on the second day of the four-day festival, packed with lots of music, arts, comedy and more.
The band played original songs from their 2022 album First Home and their recent EP, We Have Each Other, released in June of this year. The EP delves into a gloomy tonal range, drawing inspiration from a profound admiration of UK bass and electronic music, as well as afro-jazz and hip-hop influences.
Max also performed at Secret Garden Party on the same day, plus the following Saturday at the World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) Festival in Charlton Park, Wiltshire and at Bounce and Groove on Sunday at Bredy Farm in Dorset, both of which took place at the same time as Latitude.
Max said: “A few weeks back, I had the amazing opportunity to play at four festivals in three days with my band TC & The Groove Family. WOMAD was a bucket list festival, and we played a headline slot on the D&B soundscape stage on the Saturday night to over 4000 people - absolutely crazy! I play trombone in the band, as well as managing it, and I recently completed my Master's in Music Business Management at the University of Westminster. My time at the University was invaluable in preparing for a career in music management, which I hope to balance alongside touring with my own creative projects. I currently work for the management company Bridge The Gap, and our roster contains the jazz nominee for this year's Mercury Music Prize - corto.alto.”
