Based in Hertfordshire, mustbejohn is an emerging artist who brings a unique sound that draws influences from house, garage, UK rap and more. He is signed to ATC Live Agency which represents artists such as Mac Demarco and The Lumineers.

His honest lyrics are accompanied by melodic beats to form a new diverse sound for listeners, and he is heavily inspired by his surroundings and expresses a new sense of relatability through his music.

His last EP, Left the Bags Behind, includes the track Jenny’s House which now has over two million streams on Spotify and his 2021 single Raining Colours has received over one million streams. His appearance on Spotify’s New Music Friday UK playlist coincides with the release of his latest EP, Romance in Great Britain, which showcases John’s blunt vocals and drum and bass-infused sound.

Speaking about his success, mustbejohn said: “I’m just happy that more and more people seem to be hearing the sounds that we’re pouring all of this work and emotion into! [It] all started in a uni room at Westminster.”

David Brooks, Alumni Relations Officer (Alumni Experience), added: “It’s great to see mustbejohn featured on this playlist featuring the best new music of the moment. He joins a long list of Westminster alumni who have found musical success, and we’re excited to see what he does next.”
