The Brit List Awards honour the top interior designers, architects, hoteliers and suppliers working in Britain. The Awards, which have been running for seven years, gathered entries from architects across the UK and presented them to the 2024 judging panel. Judges then narrowed them down to a shortlist of nominees for The Brit List and individual awards in 13 categories.

The award ceremony took place at Ministry of Sound, London, and saw Murray Levinson receive the Highly Commended Architect of the Year award, while Elizabeth Walton was featured in the Top 25 List.

Murray graduated with a Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice in Architecture from the University of Westminster in 1994. He began his career with Squire and Partners in 1995, advancing to the role of partner by 2000. He has worked on significant residential and office projects, such as the award-winning Squire and Partners’ offices in London’s King’s Cross, which include a bar and restaurant. Among notable developments there are also the award-winning Mayfair House, One Tower Bridge and the cylindrical art’otel London Hoxton in Shoreditch. Along with this Murray has broadened the firm’s presence in Manchester by obtaining planning approvals for significant developments like Landmark Manchester.

Elizabeth graduated from Westminster with a Graduate Diploma in Architecture RIBA Part II Exemption in 2011, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Practice in Architecture in 2013. Elizabeth brings over 15 years of expertise in luxury hospitality, residential and commercial projects across the globe, including London, Switzerland, Abu Dhabi and China. Since joining ReardonSmith Architects in 2023, her notable achievements have included leading the extensive renovation of The Dorchester Hotel, where she managed the refurbishment of rooms and suites and contributed to the design of a new penthouse and rooftop dining areas. Elizabeth is celebrated for her teamwork and mentorship, particularly through her active role in Women in Architecture.

On the recognition Elizabeth said: “Hospitality design is at a particularly fascinating time, helping to redefine the luxury experience as well as influencing how people live and work in their everyday lives. It is therefore a great honour to be recognised as one of The Brit List Top 25 Architects, a scheme focusing exclusively on architects and designers who are making a significant contribution to hotel design in terms of both their project work and by helping to shape the culture of architectural practice.”

Murray’s and Elizabeth’s work directly contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5: Gender Equality and 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
