A pan-European research proposal to create an Accessibility and Connectivity knowledge hub for Urban Transformation in Europe (ACUTE) has been selected for funding, with contribution from the University of Westminster.
Dr Enrica Papa, Course Leader of the Transport Planning and Management MSc and co-convenor of the Transport and Mobilities Research Group at the University of Westminster, will be leading the UK research team of this international collaboration.
By establishing a Knowledge Hub, the ACUTE project’s purpose is to overcome the fragmentation of findings, experiences, competencies and results regarding urban accessibility and connectivity across Europe. ACUTE addresses the challenges of sustainable urban passenger mobility, freight transport, connectivity and accessibility as an integral and essential part of sustainable urban development.
The project consists of an international consortium led by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna. It involves the University of Westminster as the UK lead as well as the Research Institutes of Sweden; University of Latvia; Centre d'Etudes et d'Expertise sur Les Risques, l'Environnement, la Mobilité et l'Aménagement; Université Gustave Eiffel; Grazer Energieagentur GmbH; Graz Energy Agency; University of Innsbruck; and Malmö University.
Dr Enrica Papa said: “The ACUTE project is a unique opportunity to create a European platform for knowledge transfer on urban accessibility and connectivity. This project establishes a platform that enables participation, empowerment and exchanges within the field.
“I very much look forward to leading the UK team and will contribute to the ACUTE Knowledge Hub by bringing my expertise in the field of urban accessibility and my skills in developing strategic partnerships, extending networks and growing project reputations with funders, external academic and non-academic collaborators, and other partners.
“While a project of this scale and scope can be challenging, it can also be very rewarding. This is an exceptional chance to increase the impact of my research and the visibility of the Transport and Mobilities Research Group at the University of Westminster.”
