This year, MORE 2021 launched as a hybrid event to showcase the array of projects by Master’s students from the School of Architecture + Cities. The exhibition features work from students graduating from the Architecture MA, Interior Architecture MA, Architecture and Environmental Design MSc, International Planning and Sustainable Development MA and Urban Design MA courses. It is the second edition of the School’s annual exhibition of work to also be shown online, following on from last year’s successful OPEN 2021 exhibition.

A physical exhibition of students’ work was supported by an online iteration of MORE 2021, with representation from further courses across the School including RIBA Part III, Transport Planning and Management MSc, Urban and Regional Planning MA and a number of PhD courses.

The hybrid launch event for the exhibition took place on Friday 4 February and began with a welcome address from Professor Harry Charrington, Head of the School of Architecture + Cities. Following his address, Alastair Blyth, Assistant Head of the School of Architecture + Cities, gave an introduction to MORE 2021 and introduced the course segments and awards.

MORE 2021 included contributions from each of the participating courses where students shared their experiences of creating their projects and these were followed by a presentation of the School’s annual student awards for outstanding achievement.

Students Akma Chekkinankandy Puthiyapurayil and Katrina Galea from the Architecture were jointly awarded the Jila Golzari Outstanding Academic Achievement Award while Katarzyna Kwiatkowska was awarded a commendation for the award. Katarzyna was also awarded the Weston Williamson Award, which was presented by Philip Breese, Managing Partner from Weston Williamson + Partners.

Dhrumil Patel from the Architecture and Environmental Design MSc course was awarded the Hilson Moran Award, with honourable mentions given to Gursharan Randhawa and Sylvia Segovia. Vanja Ivkovic from the Interior Architecture MA course was awarded the RFK Architects Award for Best Thesis Project, Raquel Flamia from the International Planning and Sustainable Development MA course won the MAIPSD Award for Best Dissertation, and Kristina Bernard and Katarzyna Kuzniarz were jointly awarded the MAUD Best Dissertation award.

Alastair Blyth closed the awards portion of the event by congratulating the winning students, as well as thanking the individual courses for their participation in MORE 2021. The event ended an exclusive live music performance and drinks reception for in-person attendees.

Talking about the exhibition, Professor Harry Charrington said: “The work on show in MORE is testament to our students and staff’s tenacity and invention – a direct outcome of the diversity of backgrounds and practices with which they enrich the School. [It is] an elegantly edited exhibition that celebrates the creative cross-disciplinary work of our students in addressing strategic design, place, mobilities, making, territorial transitions and professional practice – and how they can meet our great society and planetary challenges. It is an exhibition that also reveals how we have taken advantages of the opportunities that ‘going digital’ created.”
