In the final What it Takes event of the 2022-23 academic year on 28 March 2023, recent Westminster graduates shared their experiences of entering the job market after completing their studies at Westminster’s Little Titchfield Street site.
The panel was chaired by Tracey Wells, Careers and Employability Manager at the University of Westminster, who has more than 20 years of experience working in higher education careers services.
The panel of recent graduates included Monique Noel Brown, a Public Relations Contractor at Amazon; Abdulrahman Ibrahim, a Cyber Security Associate at Aon; Taha Kaawan, who works within the Global Strategy Team at Citi; Sam Badcock, a Social Media and Content Strategist at Havas; and Irina Ghervase, a Senior Content Steward at ICP. The panellists graduated from Westminster with a wide range of degrees, from Spanish and Global Communications to Cyber Security and Forensics. In total 47 students and recent graduates attended the event.
During the panel, the speakers explained their career journeys following their graduation and shared tips and advice on how attendees could navigate their own career pathways. They also discussed how their experience at Westminster helped them discover their own interests and boosted their employability, such as Abdulrahman Ibrahim’s participation in the Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) programme visit to Washington DC.
During a Q&A and networking session with refreshments after the panel discussion, the audience were able to ask the recent graduates questions about their career journeys so far. Attendees described the panel as “amazing” and “diverse”, and one attendee said the event really helped to “boost my confidence in looking for a job”.
