The online alumni event series ‘What it Takes’ returned to Westminster on 24 March with advice on how to own your disability.

What-it-Takes

The ‘What It Takes’ series is targeted at current students and recent graduates, and it features a range of exciting and innovative alumni speakers sharing their experience on an array of topics. The event also focuses on employability, personal and professional development.

The What it Takes to own your disability event on 24 March featured speakers who shared their insights on studying and getting a job with a disability. The talk included the speakers’ own experiences of studying at the University of Westminster, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, and of both finding work and adapting to the world of work.

The talk featured a panel of successful alumni speakers, including Andrew Scarborough, Asher Olobia, and Bibi Farheen Rohomun, as well as Dr Claire Robertson, Senior Lecturer in Nutrition and Public Health at Westminster, and Daniela de Silva, Academic Engagement Manager, who chaired the event.

Andrew Scarborough is a 2019 Human and Medical Science BSc Honours graduate and currently works as a freelance medical writer alongside Health Education England to support Primary Care in the South East.

Asher Olobia is a 2021 Biomedical Sciences BSc Honours graduate, currently studying for her Master’s in Pharmacology at King’s College London.

Bibi Farheen Rohomun is a 2021 Biomedical Sciences BSc Honours graduate and currently works in Health Service Laboratories as a Medical Laboratory Assistant in the Biochemistry department. She is planning to train as a Biomedical Scientist in the future.

Following the lively panel discussion, attendees were also given the opportunity to ask questions to the panellists during a dedicated Q&A session. 40 students and recent graduates attended the event.
