Different Conversations podcast

Within just a year, the Different Conversations podcast audience has reached a global audience spanning 33 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Germany, France, New Zealand, Indonesia, Nigeria, Brazil, Greece, Thailand, and more. Dr Bradley Elliott, Senior Lecturer in Physiology and Public Engagement Lead for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences hosts the podcast, bringing together a cross-section of Westminster colleagues to engage in discussions on topical issues for the Different Conversations podcast which are released every other week.

Over the past year, the Different Conversations podcast has become a valuable source of information about innovative ideas, research and discoveries. Its audience includes people outside academia, who are interested in obtaining information about the latest research findings; prospective and current students of the University of Westminster; and journalists and academic staff from other institutions around the globe.

Talking about the podcast, Professor Gerda Wielander, Associate Head (External Relations) of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences said: “The Different Conversations podcast is one of a number of different initiatives in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences designed to showcase the way in which our colleagues’ work makes a difference. Other aspects include our weekly blog posts and the annual Difference Festival, now in its fifth year.”

Dr Bradley Elliott, Senior Lecturer in Physiology and Public Engagement Lead of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, added: “It is a pleasure to see how the Different Conversations podcast which we launched in June 2020 has increased its reach and obtained thousands of viewers and listeners. We think this name, and the content we’ve covered so far truly reflects our ethos.

“Over the last year we released podcasts with fascinating speakers discussing, among other things, findings of NASA's Mars rover, cancer cures and cookbooks, Facebook as a space for democracy, memory science and differences between male and female brains, gender identity and pronouns, how to deal with stress and uncertainty during the pandemic. It’s a constant honour to share these conversations with the wider world”.
