On Thursday 18 March, the University of Westminster Alumni Team hosted their final event in the 2020-21 What it Takes series, titled ‘What it Takes to Make Better Career Decisions’, which was attended by approximately 170 Westminster students and alumni.
The What it Takes event series features an array of exciting and innovative alumni speakers, who share their experiences and advice on a diverse range of topics, focusing on employability, personal and professional development. The series is being delivered virtually, with all talks and presentations targeted at current students and recent graduates.
The event welcomed alumnus Yashraj Jain, an experienced Market Researcher, who shared insights into the key decisions that shaped his career, and provided tips and advice on how Westminster students and graduates can make better career decisions. The guidance he shared with attendees drew on his past experiences of graduating as an international student in London and carving out a career in market research.
The session also covered common questions raised when navigating your own professional journey and the hurdles these create, including what career to choose, why taking initiative is crucial to success, considering career changes and how to choose an organisation as your employer. Attendees were also able to ask Yashraj questions in a dedicated Q&A session at the end of the event.
Talking about the event, one guest said: “It was a great event! Yashraj sharing his experience was really helpful to me as a final year student. I have to make crucial decisions now and I think I am one step closer to finding out what I want to do after this event.”
Another attendee added: “I would really like to thank Yashraj. The talk was very interesting and insightful; it gave me much food for thought and ideas for action. Yashraj was a very friendly and engaging presenter.”
