Ramadan occurs on the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar, and marks the month the Qur’an was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammed. The celebration is observed by Muslims worldwide and comprises of fasting, prayer, reflection and community.
This year, Ramadan begins on the evening of 12 April and will end on Tuesday 11 May, which is marked by Eid ul-fitr, a festival of thanksgiving to God.
